Call for actions against Russian invasion
Call for action to the world pharmaceutical community from the All-Ukrainian Pharmaceutical Chamber
On behalf of Ukrainian pharmacists, the AUPC is appealing to all pharmacists around the world to stop the murder of Ukrainians in the 21st century.
Russian troops cause deadly devastations in Ukraine every new day. What is happening in Ukraine is not just an aggression – it is the terror against Ukrainians as a nation. Russian soldiers severely violate international humanitarian law by deliberate hits of Ukrainian cities with missiles, vacuum bombs and artillery shells without any specific purpose, by striking up residential areas, hospitals, maternity hospitals, infrastructure and pharmacies. A large number of towns and villages in northern, eastern and southern Ukraine are now completely destroyed or damaged while the civilian population is left alone with all the problems since the aggressor does not perform any actions to prevent humanitarian disaster. This aggression concerns everyone in the world, since Russian troops dared to perform artillery shell attack on Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant – the largest nuclear power plant in the Europe. This is the first time that a state has attacked a fuelled and functioning nuclear power plant. This is a brutal violation of Geneva Conventions that cannot remain with impunity.
At this time, pharmacists in Ukraine continue to fulfill their mission in patients care, using the Ukrainian model of Good Pharmacy Practice – to work in a white gown with a bulletproof vest over. In many attacked cities, pharmacies are closed due to a lack of pharmaceutical staff. There is an acute shortage of medicines, which is caused by the inability to deliver medicine by distributors due to the constant shelling of all vehicles moving in the direction of cities and villages. However, Ukrainian pharmacists show by their daily deeds at their workplaces that pharmacy is one of the most accessible places for the general population where it is possible to receive a first aid.
We, the pharmacists of Ukraine, appeal to you, our colleagues, to help your governments to enforce the barbarian of the 21st century to leave the Ukrainian land as soon as possible. We are killed only because we want to speak our language, sing our songs, because we have chosen the European and democratic path of Ukraine’s development.
We, Ukrainian pharmacists, while showing you shocking photos of our destroyed pharmacies, want to show you the true picture of the crimes against humanity of Russian soldiers.
While looking for a peace and the end to suffering as soon as possible, NGO “All-Ukrainian Pharmaceutical Chamber”, organizational members of the FIP, is cordially asking our colleagues throughout the world about the following actions:
- To terminate any cooperation and contacts with Russian pharmaceutical organizations and pharmaceutical companies until the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine;
- To exclude all Russian member organizations and individual members of the International Pharmaceutical Federation and other international pharmaceutical associations until the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine;
- To donate to or participate in charitable and humanitarian organizations that provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine;
4.. To intensify participation in public actions in condemning the Russian invasion and calling for peace;
- To call for own governments to support Ukrainian people, to put an end to the full-blown military aggression and to foster peace in Ukraine as soon as possible.
Ukrainian pharmacists deeply acknowledge the heartfelt support and the numerous aid provided by pharmaceutical associations around the world. We are also grateful to Mr. Dominique Jordan, FIP President, and Dr. Catherin Duggan, FIP Chief Executive Officer for the FIP sympathy and the broad call for support of Ukrainian people during this devastating invasion.
On behalf of the pharmaceutical community of Ukraine,
Chairman of the Board of the AUPC Oleg Klimov
